There are many challenges facing the manufacturing ecosystem today, especially when it comes to automotive manufacturing. When sales are down, as can be the case during the ups and downs of an election year, automotive manufacturers must keep up with production and product quality and always be prepared for a surge in the market.

Challenges in the Automotive Industry Today

The automotive industry is still experiencing some of the aftereffects of COVID-19 production challenges. Some consumers continue to shy away from buying new vehicles, hanging onto their older cars as they wait to see where the market goes and how global trade policies may change post-election. The biggest question mark relates to emerging trends such as electric vehicles, which are heavily influenced by government policies. The automotive industry is still driven to continue making cars, but it’s a bit of a waiting game as we watch to see what will happen with 2025 models.

Another challenge right now stems from identifying the right talent to fill the right need at the right time. Both in the automotive industry and in manufacturing for automotive, there is a significant need for well-trained, skilled employees who are ready to take on the challenges that come with high-quality automotive manufacturing. Our industry has always thrived because of strong workers, and ensuring we have the talent moving forward continues to be at the forefront.

The Importance of Maintaining Product Quality

While there is little automotive manufacturers can do about global trade policies and fluctuations in vehicle sales, it is our responsibility to maintain high-quality products that will yield high-quality vehicles. This is the case whether we are dealing with demanding timelines or slow seasons.

At American Manufacturing, we ensure only the best and most reliable products are being shipped out of our facilities for automotive assemblies by taking a three-step approach to quality control:

1. Quality inspection after parts production

2. Quality inspection after welding and assembly

3. And quality inspection after final assembly and painting

We refuse to budge on our commitment to excellence, no matter what.

Simple Solutions to Production Challenges

To keep production strong and avoid hindrances, particularly during busier seasons, several unique quality control innovations offer solutions to ensure an excellent build.

Automated Quality Control Inspections

In addition to having skilled workers who know what defines a “good quality part,” robotic vision systems utilize AI to perform quality inspections with incredibly high accuracy percentages. At American Manufacturing, we utilize robotic vision systems with our bending cell to inspect bends and parts through the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller). By teaching the PLC what we define as a good quality bend, it can scan the part, compare it to the imagery we have provided, and alert us of any discrepancies.

Quality Materials = Quality Parts = Quality Products

Making a good-quality part from the very beginning goes a long way toward helping the tail end be successful. This means using the highest quality materials in parts manufacturing, just as automotive manufacturers invest in the highest quality parts for their products!

When choosing suppliers as an automotive parts manufacturer, we make sure we are supplied with quality materials all the way down to the finishing touches. When choosing paint for part finishing, we need it to adhere properly to the part and dry within a reasonable time frame so we can perform final inspections, package, and ship them out to our customers.
